How to Get a Private Pilot License: Your Complete Guide

Getting started

What is it?

A 1 hour Flight where you can fly as little, or as much as you'd like.

What's it cost?

$160 for the aircraft (paid to the Flights Inc Flight Club before we take off)

$70 for the pilot (paid directly to Pilot after your flight)

Fly as a Career

  1. Get your Medical 

a) Get a 1st Class Medical to ensure a medical problem doesn't exist prior to spending much on training.

i) Sign up on MedExpress

ii) Find an Aviation Medical Examiner (AME)

 2. Sign up for Flight Schedule Pro with our Flight Club so  you can reserve airplanes for training

a) Company Code 165397

b) Upload copies of your:

* Medical

* Student Pilot Certificate

* Payment Method

* Signed copy of Flights Inc Rental Agreement

3. Sign up for a Student Pilot Certificate on IACRA

The next steps can be done in any order, but we recommend getting them done early-on, or even before your in-aircraft flight training:

4. Complete a Private Pilot Ground School

a) Gold Seal has the best Ground School

* Create your account

* Add Travis as your Instructor - under 'My Account' add 'tduplantis83@gmail.com' as your Instructor

5. Study & take the PPL FAA Knowledge Exam

 

After that it comes down to study & Flight training!

Materials needed

Immediately​​

  • Headset (Rentals available)

  • Kneeboard, paper, pen/pencil

  • Logbook

  • Sunglasses

  • Flight bag (a cheap backpack will work)

  • Cessna 172 Cockpit Poster (FREE on Sportys)

Before Solo Flight

  • iPad with ForeFlight OR Sectional charts (SkyVector, paper charts)

  • iPad mount of some kind (I use PIVOTCase & their Yoke Mount)

  • Fuel Tester

  • C172 Fuel Hawk (Fuel Stick/Gauge with Stop)

  • ForeFlight SENTRY (required for Solo XC)

Long-Term (before Checkride/Practical Exam)

  • E6B flight computer

  • Plotter

  • Flashlight with red option

  • Foggles/Hood

  • FAR/AIM
