MEET YOUR INSTRUCTOR

Travis Duplantis CFI, CFII (ASEL)

TRAVIS DUPLANTIS

I grew up aspiring to be a pilot, and even started some flight training after high school; however, after arriving at school on 09/11/2001, my plans changed.

I settled on a career in computer science. Several layoffs and long job hunts later, I’d had enough & decided to get back to my original passion: flying.

In April of 2024 I took my first flight lesson and was hooked. Within 18 months, I'd become a Certified Flight Instructor capable of Private Pilot, Instrument, and Commercial instruction.

I'd love to share the passion and fun of flying with you. I offer FAA-certified, safe, real-world training, while respecting your time & budget.

FAQ

What are the primary enrollment requirements?

Prospective students can start training at any age, but must be at least 16 years old to fly solo and 17 to earn a Private Pilot Certificate. All candidates must obtain at least a third-class FAA medical certificate from an authorized aviation medical examiner (AME) before their first solo flight. No prior aviation experience is required to begin.

How many flight hours are required for the Private Pilot certification?

The FAA requires a minimum of 40 flight hours for a Private Pilot License. However, most students reach certification proficiency between 50 and 70 hours. This varies based on how frequently you train and how hard you study.

We recommend flying 2-3 times a week to help you progress, and save money.

what materials do I need to get started?

Here's a full list of materials needed!

Why Centennial Airport (KAPA)?

Centennial is a great airport to learn at because it’s a busy environment; this really forces students to become great at listening & talking on the radio, interpreting & following instructions, and learning to spot other aircraft traffic - overall it’ll make you a safer & more competent pilot.

What does it cost to get a Private Pilot license?

Cost varies by student, because some fly more often, and study & work harder than others, but the average (including materials & exam fees) is around $18,000.

How does this differ from a school like atp?

ATP overpromises & under-delivers. If you're even considering a program like that, I'd highly recommend that you do A LOT of research into what past students have to say

Colorado's BEST Flight school differs from a program like ATP's that for several reasons:

  • Fly at YOUR own pace! Sick? Low on Cash? Family emergency? No problem - you can take time off as-needed without risk of getting kicked out or huge financial repercussions (keep in mind that flying is a perishable skill - if you don't practice regularly, you'll lose skills & training may take longer).

  • Pay As You Go! No soul-crushing loans required. Don't have $120,000+ up-front? That's fine - with us, you pay as you go - one lesson at a time!

  • FREEDOM! Unhappy for ANY reason? We strive to tailor lessons to each of our individual students, and care about your success. If for any reason, you're unhappy, you're FREE to change instructors, flight schools, etc. At the end of the day, we are only interested in your success - not the path you take to reach your goals!
